Everyone is on high alert right now as the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to progress around the world. It has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Administrations all over the world are responding to this global crisis as best as they can.
In times like these, we are forced to slow down and realize what is important again. Many, in the US and globally, have been recommended to stay home in order to stop the virus from continuing its spread.
Disinfectants, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper are gone from shelves. Everyone is disinfecting and cleaning as much as possible and that is a really good thing. Everyone is just trying to prepare as much as they can.
But in the overwhelming task and stress of just getting on with daily life and trying to protect you and your loved ones, don’t forget to disinfect your heart against from what this new virus has already tried to do to it.
So, lets get real for a minute.. Regardless how the virus may or may not physically affect you, your loved ones, and the community around you, it is vital that you also do your part to protect your heart from its infection of fear, anxiety, worry, anger, and control.
In the bible, Jesus tells us not to worry about anything, but to pray about everything.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Isaiah 41:10
You will keep in perfect peace, those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3
These are just a few verses, but there are certainly many more in the bible that can help. The most important thing to do right now is to be calm and just do the best you can. Don’t let yourself freak out, God is in control, and you never have been anyway. (sigh of relief) He’s got you.
So go ahead, keep cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting your house and everything in sight. But don’t forget to disinfect your heart with these truths from the bible in this time.
And as the world goes crazy and freaks out around you…. It will provide you with much needed peace. And then share those truths with your neighbor, maybe it will spread to their hearts too, well… in a good way. <3
